Is Ksamil in Albania Safe for Tourists to Visit?

We get this question a lot, and as travellers who spent time here ourselves, we can tell you firsthand that Ksamil is a safe and welcoming place to visit. But of course, like anywhere in the world, there are a few things worth knowing before you go.

Warm, Friendly Locals

Albanians are known for their hospitality, and Ksamil is no exception. We were greeted with smiles everywhere we went, and even when English wasn’t spoken fluently, people still went out of their way to help. You’ll likely feel more like a guest than just another tourist.

Low Crime Rates

Ksamil has a super low crime rate, especially when it comes to tourists. We never felt unsafe walking around, even late at night. But it’s important to use common sense. Keep your belongings close, avoid flashing expensive gear, and don’t leave valuables unattended on the beach.

Be Aware of Beach Scams

If there’s one thing to watch for, it’s beach lounger charges. Some visitors report being overcharged for beach loungers, or being told they’re “included” when they’re not. Always ask if the price is for a day or per hour before you sit down. Some beach spots aren’t always upfront, so double-checking will help avoid any awkward surprises.

Driving Can Be... Adventurous

If you’re renting a car (like we did), be prepared for some aggressive driving styles as local driving habits can be a bit chaotic. The roads themselves are mostly fine, but don’t expect people to stick to the rules you might be used to. We recommend taking it slow, staying alert, and expecting the unexpected, especially in rural areas, if you have to share the road with animals!

Our Honest Opinion

Ksamil might be a rising star on the Albanian Riviera, but when it comes to safety, it’s still got that laid-back, welcoming vibe that makes you feel at home. It’s ideal for both first-time travellers and experienced adventurers who want an affordable beach getaway. Like anywhere, being smart and aware goes a long way, but overall, it’s a pretty chill and friendly place to explore.
